What you need to know about packaged units

July 06, 2018

Often times, people don’t realize all of the heating and cooling choices that are offered to them. But Total Comfort is here to remind you to think about each option and establish which type of system will best meet your needs.

One of those options is a packaged unit. What exactly is that? It’s an all-in-one heating and cooling system installed outside, which means you don’t need to take up indoor space putting up a furnace or air handler.

When would you use a packaged unit?

Packaged units are wonderful if you are limited on the amount of space inside your home. Specifically, if you have a crawlspace instead of a basement. With a basement, you normally have extra storage space that can easily fit components of your heating and cooling system. But if you exclude that, it can be difficult to find an good location and you likely want to use that space for an alternative purpose.

The units are very compact, which leaves a tiny footprint and makes installation that much quicker and easier. They can be installed within the exterior of your home or on the roof and hooks up to the ductwork through a small opening in the wall. It’s an efficient and helpful option that doesn’t take up too much space.
